Spreading 100 Days of Sunshine With Cuties!

It’s the sweetest time of year: Cuties Season! For as long as I can remember, this yummy citrus fruit has always been a family favorite and it’s no surprise why. Cuties are sweet, seedless, and completely kid-friendly. Even better is that they’re consistently of great quality regardless of where you get them! To celebrate our favorite season, the kids and I have partnered with Cuties and joined their #100DaysofSunshine initiative of spreading sunshine and sweetness in our own community…here in downtown Los Angeles!

Brainstorming ways to bring joy to our neighborhood was so much fun because let’s face it, kids have the craziest ideas! We wanted to brighten people’s day and ended up with an Easter egg hunt approach. Sounds crazy, right? Surprisingly it was quite simple and beautiful :). See below..

So first we grabbed some rocks we had lying around…

Next we painted them all sorts of vibrant colors with hearts on top… (fyi: I would recommend making a heart stencil to make it easier for the kids to paint)

…and WALAH! We have what the kids call “Happy Rocks” 😀

Now it was time to wonder the streets of our downtown community and leave them in the most unsuspecting places!

It took us about an hour to leave these happy rocks in all sorts of places, but each place we chose felt like we were beautifying it with a positive vibes.

Exhausted, the kids took a break and enjoyed their Cuties. Btw, Austin discovered this really cool way to peel Cuties on YouTube and now he always has to show me. Apparently you can remove the top and bottom and split it open on one side. This allows all the pieces to be lined up in a row, still intact with the skin, ready to peel off individually. He probably thinks it’s cooler than sliced bread haha

At one point the kids saw an elderly man walk by one of their rocks that was placed in a crack of a sidewalk. He stopped for a second to take a second look, looked around (maybe to see if there were others?), and just smiled as he walked away. The kids shouted “It worked, Mommy! It worked! Can we do this again later with Baba?” I responded with a smile of my own because duh, who wouldn’t want their kids spreading joy?

So what are you waiting for? Grab some Cuties and your kids to brainstorm some creative ways of spreading sweetness in your community.

Cheers,
THM

    • You may not have sunshine there, but you’re gonna have a huge wedding celebration when Prince Harry gets married!! We don’t get fun and festive days like that here in the US 🙁

    • Hi Faith! Omg I think you guys would have a blast beautifying your area and spreading cheer. Your daughter’s smile will probably double since she’ll be seeing pretty rocks, BUT now it’s designed by her :).

  • Seriously this is such a good idea. Teaching the little ones to beautify your surroundings is such a great lesson. It teaches community and respect for your surroundings. I think I will be doing this project with my family layer this week.
