PUT THOSE STORE BOUGHT CARDS TO SHAME WITH A DIY

It’s that time of year where everyone seems to be getting sick. It can be from the change in weather, a mysterious virus spreading in the office, or your kids bringing sick germs from school. Either way it’s a time to be careful, but also an opportunity to be thoughtful!

After a lot of coughing and sniffling on our weekly FaceTime call with Grandma, Austin was feeling a little sad he couldn’t be there to help take care of her (i.e. bringing her a cup of water, helping her fix the cushions on her couch, attempting to answer her phone calls). I told him there is always a way to make someone feel better, which is how we ended up making Grandma her very own get well card.

This DIY card really does feel sincere when giving it to someone vs a store bought card with your name signed. What’s even better is that it’s easy to make within minutes and also requires supplies you may already have. See below for instructions!

The supplies you will need are:

  • Glue
  • Black Sharpie
  • Markers/Crayons for doodling
  • Bandaids
  • Scissor
  • Construction paper for the card
  • Wiggly Eyes (Not mandatory, but really do add a nice touch! You can find some on Amazon here or purchase them at any craft store. I always have a bag of wiggly eyes in my craft drawer)

To add a nice touch, include a tea bag inside the card. For visual purposes, I cut out a tea cup from white construction paper and glued only 3 edges to make a pouch. You can then insert the tea bag and leave the string hanging out for easy access. Since Grandma has tons of tea at home already, I decided to use an Emergen-C Vitamin C pack instead.

And there you have it! A creative, personalized, and thoughtful card that you can give to Mr. Sniffles or Ms. Sneezy! It’s also super convenient to make if you’re in the office with a sick coworker. Bandaids can be found in the first aid kit and there’s always tea in the office kitchen :).

So go brighten someone’s day with this DIY card and put those store bought cards to shame! Your drawings may be messy and the cut edges may not match, but I guarantee you it will be appreciated 10 times as much!

Take care,
THM
